Rams Earn Honors After Pac-12 Debut

Hejny, Diomande tabbed as players of the week
FORT COLLINS  – A rousing victory in the season opener, marking Colorado State's debut in the Pac-12, came complete with a pair of weekly awards for the program in addition to reclaiming the Bronze Boot.

Quarterback Hauss Hejny was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while linebacker Oumar Diomande was tabbed for the honor on the defensive side.

Hejny completed 23-of-33 passes for 214 yards and five touchdowns in the 35-13 victory over Wyoming. He added 39 yards on the ground and made one sensational catch, good for 28 yards to set up the first of his touchdown passes on the day. His five scoring tosses are tied for the second most in a game at Colorado State as he became the third Ram to throw that many on opening day and just the second to do so in their first start for the team.

Diomande helped key a defense which limited the Cowboys to just 273 yards of total offense and produced four turnovers. Three of those were interceptions, just the third time in the past 10 seasons the CSU defense has collected a trio. Diomande had one of the picks while tying for the team lead in tackles with 11.

Colorado State hosts Southern Utah for Ag Day on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Canvas Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m., with CBS Sports Network set to televise the game.
