POSTGAME QUOTES:
Colorado State Head Coach Mike Bobo
Opening Statement
“First off, I want to give credit to Boise State. I thought they played excellent tonight. It started with their quarterback. I don’t know how many incompletions he threw, but it wasn’t many, or how many third downs they didn’t convert but it wasn’t many either. We turned the ball over three times, obviously it’s hard to beat any team when that happens, but especially Boise. There were just too many things that went wrong for us tonight to have a chance at winning. I didn’t think we had to play a perfect game but we definitely had to play better than that. The pop-over kick after the touchdown in the second half, we thought we had something there, with their tackle squeezing in but we just didn’t execute it. When it came to the game I thought we were going to have to steal a possession to win and I thought that was the best opportunity to do it. We didn’t have to opportunity in the first half with two seconds left in the half on the first kick off. It was something I told the team we would run. I had a couple other things we were going to run that we didn’t have to opportunity to do so. It’s a tough loss. I thought we prepared well. I thought we competed well. At times, I feel like when we come here we’re a little bit on our heels to start the game for whatever reason. That team continues to execute at a high level, I’m glad that quarterbacks graduating, but I know they’ll have another good quarterback. They do an outstanding job, but tough loss, again give them credit.”
On getting hit by the Boise “mystique”...
“I don’t necessarily think it was the Boise mystique. I just think they had us on our heels early in the game. It didn’t really seem like we were able to settle down and they converted third downs. I think they were five-for-five at some point there in the first half. When you don’t really put any pressure on that guy and he has a lot of time to throw the ball he’ll pick you apart. He’s experienced, he’s a good player, they got weapons, and they execute at a high level.”
On trying to steal a possession with the onside kick late in the game…
“It was something we saw on film. It was something we executed in practice. We just didn’t execute it tonight. You know, it’s kind of feast or famine for those. The kick just traveled a little too far and we weren’t able to recover it.”
On Brett Rypien having a big night…
“Well yeah, I knew if we didn’t give him some different looks then he was going to have a chance to pick us apart. I don’t think we tackled especially well, especially in the first half defensively. Again, you have to give those guys credit. They’re breaking tackles and making plays.”
