  • Title:
Assistant Coach -- Special Teams Coordinator
Veteran coach Tommy Perry joined Jay Norvell's initial staff in January 2022 and is the special teams coordinator. The role reunited Perry with Norvell after the two worked together during Norvell's first three seasons at Nevada. Perry was the first Colorado State coach devoted solely to leading the special team unit. Prior to Fort Collins, he spent the past five seasons of his career as a special teams coach, and has held the title 12 other seasons at various stops, the first being at Texas A&M – Commerce in 2005.

Perry handled the special team units at UTSA and Nevada prior to arriving in Fort Collins. In San Antonio he helped the Roadrunners to a Conference USA Championship in 2021, while also garnering a Lou Groza Award semifinalist with placekicker Hunter Duplessis. Perry also improved the specialists while in Reno, increasing punt returns and overall punting.

Perry spent three seasons at North Texas handling special teams and coaching running backs. The Mean Green rushed for the second-most rushing touchdowns in program history with 31, while running back Brandin Byrd recorded his first 1,000-yard rushing season.

Prior to his tenure in Denton, Perry spent four seasons coaching running backs and special teams at South Alabama. Perry coached place-kicker Michel Chapuseaux, who broke the school’s single-season scoring record with 84 points.

Perry has additional experience coaching at the professional level after working as a special teams assistant and head strength coach for NFL Europe’s Amsterdam Admirals in 2006.

Perry began his coaching career as an assistant strength & conditioning coach at Texas in 2004, also serving as an academic advisor for the Longhorns. He became a special teams and running backs coach at Texas A&M - Commerce in 2005 before heading to Alabama as a graduate assistant for three years under Nick Saban and Mike Shula.
