Earned Class B all-state honors as a junior and a senior, and was the all-state defensive captain as a junior.
Received honorable mention all-state recognition as a sophomore.
Led McCook High School to three consecutive district titles. McCook made the state semifinals during his sophomore and junior seasons, and the quarterfinals in his senior year.
Holds school records several categories, including most tackles (season and career), most forced fumbles (season and career) and most touchdowns in a playoff game.
Served as team captain as a senior in both football and basketball.
Owns his high school's record in the 110 meter high hurdles.
Earned academic all-conference honors all four years.

Personal: Born Aug. 24, 1999 in Denver ... parents are Russ and Bev Schlager .... both of his brothers played college football: Jake played safety at CSU from 2013-17, leaving as the school record-holder in career games played (55) ... played at South Dakota ... father played football at Fort Lewis ... cousin, Blake Weiman, played baseball at Kansas and was drafted in the eighth round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
