Pierce Hornung enters his fourth season on the CSU men's basketball staff and third as Director of Player Development after spending the 2015-16 season as Director of Operations. He also briefly spent time as an assistant coach during the 2017-18 season.
Hornung, a native of Arvada, Colo., returns to the Colorado State men’s basketball program where he helped the Rams to 81 victories from 2009-10 to 2012-13, at the time the winningest four-year stretch in program history.Â
He concluded his playing career at CSU as the Rams’ career leader in steals (156). Regarded as one of the top rebounders in the country throughout his CSU career, Hornung also finished No. 3 on the Rams’ career-rebounding list with 799 boards. He is also fourth all-time in games played at CSU (123) and closed his career at No. 5 on the Rams’ career field-goal percentage chart (.587).Â
During his senior season in 2012-13, the Rams’ first under head coach Larry Eustachy, Hornung helped lead the Rams to a then-program record with a 26-9 campaign, which included an NCAA tournament victory over Missouri in the Round of 64. Overall, Hornung helped the Rams to four consecutive postseason berths during his career at CSU, as the Rams qualified for the 2010 CBI, the 2011 NIT and the 2012 NCAA tournament before the return trip to the “Big Dance” in 2013.Â
Hornung competed his degree in finance from Colorado State in 2013 and worked at the Bank of Colorado as a loan officer for two years before joining Eustachy’s staff.
