    Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Michael Taylor joined the strength and conditioning staff in August of 2024, working directly with women’s basketball, women’s tennis and men’s and women’s golf.
 
Taylor joins the staff from Gonzaga where he was an assistant strength and conditioning coach working with the volleyball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s cross country, as well as assisting with women’s basketball. Collegiately, he previously did internships at Virginia (2015-17), Gonzaga (three different stints from 2010-2013) and Air Force (2013). He additionally has experience working as a sports performance coach at numerous stops.
 
A college athlete himself, he played basketball at Whitworth from 2008-12, lettering four times and serving as a team captain for the four-time Northwest Conference tournament champions. In his career, the team reached the Sweet 16 of the national tournament three times, once advancing to the Elite Eight.
 
Taylor earned his bachelor’s degree in 2012 from Whitworth University, gaining his MSc Sports Medicine: Strength and Conditioning from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs in 2014. He has earned the certifications of CSCS-NSCA, USAW-L1, FMS-1 and  is CPR/AED trained.
 
He and his wife Abby have a son, MJ, a dog and two cats. He enjoys snowboarding, hiking and eating good food.
