John Weber, a 1991 graduate of Colorado State University, was named 21st Director of Athletics on May 30, 2024 after a three month stint as the interim.
Over Weber’s first year leading his alma mater, Weber saw tremendous growth and set the athletic department and university on a new path. On September 12, 2024 Weber and President Amy Parsons announced the Rams’ move to the Pac-12 on July 1, 2026. The move sets Colorado State up for great success across the board in the future.
CSU was just one of 25 programs in the nation with an NBA and NFL Draft pick in Nique Clifford (Sacramento Kings) and Tory Horton (Seattle Seahawks). The Rams were also one of 14 universities in the nation to qualify for the NCAA volleyball and men’s tournament and go to a bowl game. The Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl appearance by football was the program's first time in the postseason since 2017.
Colorado State also had a national champion in the shot put for outdoor track and field with Mya Lesnar.
Away from competition, CSU did well in the classroom, securing the second-best semester grade (Fall 2024) in program history and finished the year with its 11th-straight semester recording a GPA higher than Colorado State’s overall student population.
CSU saw an increase in revenue, attendance and merchandise sales during Weber’s first year as the department continues to strive towards being the Most Loved, Most Watched and Most Innovative program in the West.

Weber’s ties to CSU are significant, as a former student-athlete at CSU himself, Weber’s post-graduate accomplishments and work on behalf of the university have included serving as the chairperson for the College of Business’ Global Leadership Council (GLC), acting as an advisor to the department’s RAM Life program for student-athlete development, and serving as the Executive Director of the Green and Gold Guard collective.

An accomplished businessman, Weber’s engineering background led him through a successful career in the private sector, culminating in his role as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Long Range Systems. Weber retired from the role in 2020 and has served the university dutifully since.
