Hansson One Win From Tying Record

Fort Collins, Colo. ? Sanja Hansson enters Tuesday?s tennis match with Denver University one victory shy of tying Colorado State University?s career record for individual victories.
Hansson and her Rams? teammates play host to DU at 3 p.m. Tuesday on the varsity courts east of Moby Arena.
The senior, who is from Helsingborg, Sweden, has won 74 matches ? including 24 in 30 matches in 2003 ? one shy of tying Allison Lisle?s record.
Hansson has gathered many fans during her four-year career at Colorado State, none bigger than her coach, Jon Messick.
?She is the best player I have ever coached,? said Messick of his team?s No. 1 singles player.
?Sanja is a smart, well-rounded player who has a lot of ways to score points. She uses the court better than anyone I?ve ever coached.?
Hannson began her career at Colorado State in 2000, finishing 20-14. A year later, she was the 30th-ranked player in the Central Region. Last season, she won 14 singles matches.
She has saved her best performance for her senior season. To date, she is 24-6, and last fall was ranked as high as 1wth in the Central Region.
?She is a quiet leader and she leads by example,? said Messick. ?Sanja has had a tremendous impact on our team. She is real tough and very competitive. It?s a tremendous psychological advantage to know that your No. 1 singles player can stand up to anybody.?
Colorado State enters Tuesday?s nonconference match with the Pioneers with an 8-8 overall record. The Rams won two of three Mountain West Conference matches last weekend, defeating Utah and Wyoming.
