Colorado Springs, Colo. - Colorado State senior Sanja Hansson has been named Mountain West Conference Women?s Tennis Player of the Week. This is Hansson?s first ever player of the week honor.
Hansson, a Helsingborg, Sweden, native, went 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles over the weekend, helping the Rams to victories over Utah and Wyoming. She started her week with a straight set victory over Wyoming?s Patricia Chien (6-2, 6-2) at No. 1 singles. She also teamed with Dasha Zhurin to beat Chien and Kati Gyulai at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Against Utah, she beat Ellen Svensson, 6-1, 7-6 (1), at the No. 1 spot and teamed with Zhurin to beat Svensson and Allison Hansen at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Hansson also defeated BYU?s Leeza Klempner in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) at No. 1 doubles. Hansson is now 24-6 overall in singles on the year, which sets the CSU school record for winning percentage in a single season. She also needs one more victory to tie Allison Lisle for most career singles victories at Colorado State.
