Mt. SAC Hosts Distance Carnival

Thursday evening was tabbed the distance carnival at the Mt. SAC Relays and several Colorado State track and field athletes established personal bests there.
In the women?s 5000 meters, Colleen Blair ran the best time in her career, posting a 17:19.42 to finish 27th overall and 16th among Division I athletes. Both Kim Leal and Jennifer Kintzley ran their first 10,000 meters of the season, finishing 14th and 16th, respectively after posting times of 35:23.45 and 35:54.65, respectively. They were 11th and 12th among collegians. Christine Ahn tied for 10th in the pole vault after clearing 11-6 and Keela Niemeyer was second in the discus throw with her toss of 152-7. Haley Hunt also finished 11th in the discus with a throw of 138-10.
For the men, Mike Nicks missed the school record in the steeplechase by just two seconds after finishing second with a time of 8:51.73, which is a personal best time for him and he was the top collegian. Placing sixth overall in the same race was Raegan Robb with a personal best time of 9:00.67. In the university/open 5000 meters, Austin Vigil posted a personal best time of 14:09.63 to finish eighth while Bill Michel was 19th with a personal record 14:17.81. In the invitational 10,000 meters, Dylan Olchin ran a 29:42.92 to finish 14th, while in the university/open race, Josh Glaab was the second collegian and was fifth overall after running a personal record 29:35.55 and Paul DiGrappa had a personal best time of 31:36.16.
The Mt. SAC Relays continue Friday and Saturday, while most of the Colorado State track and field team will be at home for the Ram Open on Saturday. Events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
