Women's Tennis Falls In Opener

January 30, 2004/Lincoln, Neb. - The Colorado State women?s tennis team dropped its first dual match of the season Friday night to the University of Nebraska, 5-2, at the Woods Tennis Center. The Huskers captured four singles victories and took the doubles point in the victory, extending their home winning streak against non-conference opponents to 47. With the loss, the Rams drop to 0-1 on the season, and are now 1-7 all-time against Nebraska.
Colorado State won 2-of-6 singles matches, coming from the No. 1 and No. 4 positions. The Rams were led at the No. 1 spot by junior Dasha Zhurin, who defeated Milena Schulz-Garner, 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Charity Malone had the second victory for the Rams, defeating Rose Ketmayura, 2-6, 6-3 (10-2).
In doubles play, Nebraska won all three matches to earn the doubles point. The team of Jasmin Singh and Jessica Jones had the closest match, losing to Oehme/Schulz-Garmer, 8-6.
The Rams will be back in action tomorrow against the University of Illinois-Chicago in Lincoln, Nebraska. This will be the first time Colorado State has faced UIC in a dual match. For match results check out www.csurams.com.
