Five Score in Double Figures to Beat IPFW

Five players scored in double figures for the Colorado State women?s basketball team as it won its final non-conference game of the season, 78-63 over the IPFW Mastodons. The Rams improve to 9-4 on the year, while IPFW falls to 5-9.
Senior forward Joy Jenkins led the Rams with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line, while sophomores Melissa Dennett and Lindsay Thomas each scored 12, sophomore guard Vanessa Espinoza chipped in 11 and freshman forward Kylee O?Dwyer came off the bench to score 10 in the Rams win. Senior guard Jasai Ferrucho had a career-high nine assists on the evening and led the team with four steals, committing just three turnovers. Both Thomas and O?Dwyer led the team with seven rebounds and Espinoza continued her hot shooting from beyond the arc, going 3-for-5.
?It was a good second half,? said Head Coach Chris Denker. ?We got to play a lot of people. Our defense was fine -- not outstanding, but fine. All-in-all, it was a good effort.?
IPFW was led by Amy Geralds with 23 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Courtney Nicley chipped in 16 points and Verea Bibbs added 12 points and six rebounds. Maggie Bruening led the team with eight assists.
?This team (IPFW) scores a lot of points,? continued Denker. ?We did a good job of limiting that, but our offense wasn?t anything to write home about. We need to shoot free throws better.?
Jenkins moved into 20th on the all-time career scoring chart tonight with 710 points and also moved into 17th on the career blocked shots chart after tying her career-high with three. Ferrucho moved into 13th on the career charts in assists after notching her career-high with nine. Her nine assists also ties for 20th on the single-game list at CSU.
Colorado State opens conference play on Thursday evening against BYU at 7:00 p.m. and then will face Utah on Saturday at noon in a game televised by FOX Sports Net Rocky Mountain.
