The Colorado State indoor track and field season started on Saturday with a quartet of Rams competing in the Iowa State Holiday Classic. Seniors Loree Smith and John Woods and sophomores Janay DeLoach and Magnus Lohse all brought home individual titles.
Smith won both the shot put and weight throw, putting the shot 49-10.5 to win by almost eight feet and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championship in the weight throw with a school record breaking throw of 70-5. Her toss also broke both the meet and stadium records at Iowa State and breaks her own school record of 67-5.5 set in 2003.
Woods was the top collegiate finisher in the 60 meter dash, running a 6.73 to finish third overall after running a 6.75 in the preliminaries earlier in the day.
DeLoach won the long jump with her leap of 19-2 and she also won the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.56, winning by .10 seconds.
Lohse broke the meet record with his winning throw of 60-10.5 in the shot put, provisionally qualifying him for the NCAA Championship.
The entire Colorado State track and field team will compete on Jan. 21-22 at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.
