Light Week: Most of the Colorado State track & field teams will take the week off in preparation for the Mountain West Conference Championships Feb. 26-28 at the Air Force Academy. A handful of student-athletes will participate this weekend at the Air Force Open on Saturday.
Made To Be Broken: Senior John Woods broke the school record in the 60 meter dash over the weekend, bettering his own time to 6.69. He and Eric Gray previously co-owned the record at 6.70 with Woods running the time in 2002 and Gray running it in 1999. Woods has won every event entered in this season and has the second best time ever recorded in the Mountain West in the 60 meters. For his accomplishments, Woods was named the Mountain West Men?s Track and Field Athlete of the Week, winning the second award for the Rams this season (Magnus Lohse).
Best In The Mountain West: Several Rams have the top mark in the performance lists in the Mountain West Conference. John Woods has the best time in both the 60 and 200 meters, while freshman Rodnee Pope is right behind him in the 200 meters in second. Freshman Magnus Lohse also has the best throw in the shot put this season.
School Record: Magnus Lohse, in just his second collegiate event, broke the school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in the shot put with his winning throw of 63-2 at the Robert Shine Invitational in Laramie on Jan. 31. Lohse breaks the old record of 60-2 held by Brian Trainor from 2001 and he currently ranks fifth in the nation among Division I student-athletes. Lohse?s winning toss is also the third best throw ever recorded in the Mountain West Conference and earned him Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Male Athlete of the Week.
