Women's Tennis Defeats UC Santa Barbara

Feb. 23, 2004/Boise, Idaho - The Colorado State women?s tennis team notched its third win of the year Sunday by defeating UC Santa Barbara by the score of 6-1. The Rams won 5-of-6 singles matches in the victory, and won 2-of-3 doubles matches to receive the point. CSU moves to 3-3 in dual matches for the spring.
In singles play, the Rams were led by Dasha Zhurin at the No. 1 position, and Emily Kirchem at the No. 2 position. Zhurin defeated Marielle Gruenig in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Zhurin finished the weekend with a 2-1 record, and is now 4-2 in dual match competition. Kirchem finished the weekend with a 3-0 record, and is now 5-1 on the year in dual matches. She defeated Andrea Pintar 6-2, 6-0. Also in the win column were Charity Malone (No. 4), Jasmin Singh (No. 5), and Tatyana Ugorich (No. 6).
The Rams stole the doubles point by defeating the Guachos of UC Santa Barbara in 2-of-3 matches. The team of Kirchem/Zhurin at the No. 1 position defeated Kuhle/Pintar, 8-2. The duo of Pallares/Singh at the No. 2 spot defeated Wilson/Vyhnis, 8-6.
The Rams have another busy week when they head to Las Cruces, New Mexico, on Feb. 27, to face New Mexico State. The following day CSU will take on UTEP in El Paso, Texas.
