Colorado State junior Loree Smith was named Mountain West Conference Women?s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. Smith, a Julesburg, Colo., product, won the hammer throw with a Mountain West all-time and Colorado State school record throw of 214?-8? (65.44m) at the Stanford Invitational. Smith bettered the MWC record by more than three feet and surpassed the CSU record by over 16 feet in her first meet of the season. Her throw also surpasses the provisional qualifying mark for the USA Olympic Trials and currently ranks second in NCAA Division I as well as in the top five in the nation.
