Lloyd Wins Heptathlon

Colorado State freshman Katie Lloyd won the Glenn Morris Heptathlon this afternoon, scoring 4,961 points and missing the NCAA qualifying standard by just 39 points as a true freshman. Freshman teammate Tonya Cure finished second with 4,492 points, while freshman Kelly Marquardt finished sixth with 3,646 points.
Lloyd?s two-day total of 4,961 is also the third best in school history behind the school record of 5,160 held by current assistant coach Lindsey Malmgren and current junior Cristina Gourdin?s total of 5,136 from earlier this season. Lloyd ended the heptathlon today with a personal best time in the 800 meters, running a 2:29.43.
Cure also ran a career-best 2:18.91 in the 800 meters to win the event and Marquardt had career-highs in both the long jump and the 800 meters.
Freshman decathlete Kevin Johnson did not compete today after fouling on all three of his shot put attempts yesterday afternoon.
The Colorado State track & field teams will be in Albuquerque on Saturday for the Modrall Sperling Don Kirby Invitational.
