SDSU Defeats Ram Tennis Team 4-1

The Colorado State women?s tennis team fell 4-1 to San Diego State in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Championship on Thursday in San Diego, Calif.
The Rams kept the match close the entire way before being overcome by the Aztecs.
The only point for Colorado State came at the No. 5 singles spot where Tatyana Ugorich defeated Patricia Graf 6-4, 6-0. Ugorich also won her doubles match earlier in the day when she paired up with Alexandra Paganetti to knock off the duo of Graf and Sarah Sansom 9-7.
Colorado State will face Air Force in the consolation bracket of the 2004 Mountain West Tournament at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in San Diego, Calif.

Colorado State freshman Emily Kirchem was named to the MWC All-Conference Team on Wednesday, capping an outstanding first season on the court for the Rams.
Kirchem, a 5-4 freshman from Fairview, Ore., led the Rams in singles wins with 22 in her first season, and heading into the conference tournament had won 15 of her last 20 matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. She was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week on March 31 for her 2-0 singles performance in Colorado State?s 5-2 and 7-0 wins over Wyoming and BYU, respectively.
Kirchem was the only Ram named to the 12-player team, which include three players from both BYU and New Mexico, two players from San Diego State and UNLV, and one player from Air Force.
