Senior pole vaulter Christine Ahn and junior steeplechaser Mike Nicks were both named to the 2004 Verizon Academic All-District VII University Division Track & Field teams, announced CoSIDA.
To be eligible for All-District honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore eligibility, hold a 3.2 or better grade point average and be a significant contributor to the team.
Ahn, the school record holder in the pole vault, was named to the team for the third straight season, posting a perfect 4.00 GPA in Psychology. Ahn graduated a few weeks ago and is the most storied pole vaulter in school history, breaking the school record a total of four times in her career. She owns both the indoor and outdoor records in the pole vault and was named the final Mountain West Athlete of the Week this season.
Nicks, the school record holder in the steeplechase, earns academic district honors for the first time. He is a business administration major with a 3.786 GPA and will compete in the NCAA Championship next weekend. Nicks won the NCAA Midwest Regional steeplechase event and will be running at the NCAA Championship for the second straight season.
Nicks, along with seven others will be competing June 9-12 at the NCAA Championship in Austin, Texas, hosted by the University of Texas. Both Ahn and Nicks will be forwarded to the national ballot for a chance at earning Academic All-American honors.
