Smith Named District Athlete of Year

Colorado State junior Loree Smith was named the Mountain District Outdoor Female Athlete of the Year by the United States Track Coaches Association. Smith won the award after being ranked in the top five all season in both the hammer and discus events.

She also won the hammer at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet and will compete in both events at the NCAA Championship. Smith holds both the school and Mountain West Conference records in the hammer and the Mountain West record in the discus.

She is the second CSU award winner in as many years, as former Ram standout Drew Loftin won the men?s award last season.

Smith and seven other student-athletes will represent CSU at the NCAA Championship June 9-12 in Austin, Texas.
