Ram Women in Eighth at Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate

The Colorado State women's golf team sits in eighth place after one day of the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. The Rams recorded rounds of 307 and 301 on Monday led by freshman Kelly Brotherton who yielded a 75-73--148, placing her in a tie for ninth place individually.
Sophomore Megan Chapman, who fired rounds of 74 and 76 Monday, is tied for 19th with a 150 while Chelsea Benton had rounds of 77 and 75 for a tie for 32nd with a 152. Amber Ward (158) and Stefanie Ferguson (162) sit in 62nd and 78th place, respectively to round out the Colorado State scoring for the day.
New Mexico leads the event with a 15-over 591, 17 strokes in front of CSU. Denise Munzlinger of Missouri and Mikaela Backstedt of New Mexico lead the tournament individually, each shooting four-under 140s.
"Kelly (Brotherton) played really well," commented CSU head coach Angie Hopkins after the Rams' two rounds on Monday. "Right now, we're looking forward to tomorrow."
The 21-team field will wrap up the event on Tuesday with a final round of 18 holes beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun and the New Mexico State University Golf Course, a 6,319-yard par 72 track in Las Cruces.
