The Colorado State track & field teams today announced the signing of two more student-athletes to National Letters of Intents. Both will enroll at the university in the fall of 2006.
Cameron Carter, Discus, Lakewood, Calif., Mayfair High School
Carter is one of the top five ranked high school seniors in the boy's discus, according to DyeStat. Last spring, he was named the Outstanding Male Performer of the Long Beach Relays after throwing 194-3. As a junior in high school, Carter finished 11th at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championship and was ninth among high school competitors.
"Cameron has good size, very good feet and is technically on the right track," said throws coach Brian Bedard. "I would think Cameron can come in as a freshman and have an immediate impact on our squad. I think he will transition to the college discus quickly and will begin some work in the hammer right away. He has a passion for throwing that will be important for his development in his college career."
JD Snell, Pole Vault, Colorado Springs, Colo., Rampart High School
Snell began pole vaulting as a sophomore in high school, having immediate success and placing 6th at the Arizona high school championships. As a junior in high school, won numerous invitationals and placed first at the Colorado State Junior Olympics with a personal record vault of 15' 0". Placed first at the 2005 State Games of America.
"I am very excited to have JD Snell joining our CSU track and field team," said vaults coach Lindsey Malone. "I am looking forward to training JD and seeing him make an impact in the men's pole vault."
Carter and Snell join heptathlete Sonni Russell from Loma, Colo., and Fruita Monument High School.
