Santa Cruz, Calif. ? Two rain showers in a six-hour period including one at the start of the third round forced cancellation of the third and final round of the 59th annual Western Intercollegiate men?s golf tournament. The Rams finished in a tie for 12th place with a two-round score of 601 held at the 6,445/Par 70 Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif.

?(This morning) The greens became completely saturated and made them unplayable. With the accumulation of the rain from last week, there was nowhere for the water to go,? said tournament director John Dormann.

Junior Kevin McAlpine was the top Colorado State golfer with an eight-over 148 and a tie for 24th place. Senior John Hayes carded a two-round 150 and finished in a tie for 34th.

According to official college golf rules, 36 holes of competition qualifies as a countable tournament for season records and post-season considerations.

The University of Oregon, the leader after 36 holes of the team competition, and J.J. Scurich, tops among the 90 players in the field, were declared champion and medalist, respectively.

The Colorado State men?s golf team will be back in action on April 8-9 in Phoenix, Ariz., for the Thunderbird Invitational.
