Rams Finish Second at Irish Spring Invitational

ORLANDO, Florida (March 8, 2005) ? The Colorado State men?s golf team finished in 2nd place after the third and final round of the Irish Spring Invitational at the 6,901/Par 72 Mission Inn Resort El Campeon Course. The Rams fired a 304 on the final day to finish with a three-round 889 and four strokes behind Wichita State.
Going into the final round the Rams trailed Wichita State by 12 strokes. The Rams cut the lead after firing a 304, which was the best round of the 13-team field.
CSU was led by junior Kevin McAlpine and sophomore Aaron Weston who both carded a three-round 220 to finish in a tie for 2nd place. Both players fired a three-over 75 in the final round to secure the spot.
Sophomore Derrick Whiting and senior John Hayes both shot a five-over 77 in the final round. Whiting finished in a tie for 9th place with a three-round 225. Hayes finished in a tie for 11th place with a three-day score of 226.
Junior Nate Pettitt struggled in the final round carding a 12-over 84 and finishing in a tie at 32nd place.
Judd Easterling of Wichita State earned the individual title with a three-round 215. Easterling fired a five-under 67 on the first day of play and followed it with two rounds of 74.
The Rams will be back in action on March 15-16 when they head to Phoenix, Ariz., for the Steve Kerr Invitational hosted by the University of Denver.
