Women's Golf Earns NCAA Regional Berth

The Colorado State women?s golf team earned its third invitation in the last five years to play in the NCAA West Regional Tournament. The Rams, who finished third in the Mountain West Conference Tournament over the weekend, will play in Las Cruces, N.M., May 5-7.
?We are very excited to be playing in the tournament,? commented head coach Angie Hopkins. ?This was one of our goals at the beginning of the season and the girls were able to play themselves in last weekend.?
The Rams, who are ranked No. 50 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin index, will be one of 63 teams in this year?s championships. Three regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the national championships field. CSU is one of 21 teams competing the the West Regional, which is being hosted by New Mexico State University (NMSU Golf Course), in Las Cruces, N.M. The Rams are ranked 15th out of the tournament field of 21.
The top eight teams and top two individuals from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 17-20 in Sunriver, Ore.
The Rams are one of four Mountain West teams to advance to the regional field and will play in the West Regional along with BYU and UNLV while New Mexico will play in the Central Regional in Lubbock, Texas.
Colorado State features a quartet of seniors including Kristen Campos who finished third in the MWC Championships over the weekend.
CSU made NCAA appearances in 2001 and 2002 finishing in 15th and 14th place, respectively.
2005 NCAA West Regional Tournament Field: Arizona (No. 17), BYU (No. 42), California (No. 25), Colorado State (No. 50), Denver (No. 77), Georgia (No. 5), Georgia State (No. 45), Illinois State (No. 65), Northwestern (No. 44), Oklahoma State (No. 7), Oral Roberts (no. 84), Oregon (No. 34), Portland State (No. 94), San Francisco (No. 46), Stanford (No. 24), Tennessee (No. 9), UC Irvine (No. 29), UCLA (No. 2), UNLV (No. 26), USC (No. 16) and Washington State (No. 23).
