At the first day of the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Sacramento State, both Colorado State senior Adam Trainor and junior Katie Hansen qualified for finals despite rain throughout the day.
Trainor threw 210-1, which was the seventh best throw on the day, and he will compete in the finals on Friday at 2:00 p.m. (Pacific). Junior Jace Rivera did not advance to finals on Friday, but finished 25th overall with his throw of 193-4.
Hansen qualified 11th with a throw of 165-2, moving up nine spots from her seed of 20th. She will throw in the finals on Friday at noon (Pacific).
In the men?s steeplechase, senior Mike Nicks was in the second heat, finishing in 8:50.78 to finish 21st. In the last race of the day, senior Michelle Carman finished 26th with a time of 17:05.99.
Tomorrow, senior Loree Smith will compete in the preliminaries of the hammer throw, while Trainor, Hansen and junior Cristina Gourdin (heptathlon) will continue competition on Friday.
