Volleyball Wins Hilton Classic

Another strong blocking performance for the Colorado State volleyball team led the Rams to their third-straight victory, a four-game win over Oregon State, 30-24, 30-20, 22-30, 30-19 to improve to 4-3 on the year, while the Beavers fall to 4-2.
Colorado State junior libero Katherine Whitney was named the MVP of the Hilton Classic after notching 18 digs in the four-game victory. The Boulder native tallied 52 digs in the 10 games of the tournament and recorded three aces. Senior outside hitter Casey Bauer and sophomore right-side hitter joined Whitney on the team. Bauer had 44 kills, 31 digs and 12 blocks, while Mokelki hit .288 with 33 kills, 14 digs and eight blocks.
Bauer led the match with 18 kills, while Mokelki and freshman middle blocker Mekana Barnes recorded 12 kills and senior outside hitter Tess Rogers and senior middle blocker Dre Downs each chipped in 11 kills. Barnes also notched a career-high nine blocks, while Rogers, Bauer and Downs each had six. Whitney led the match with 18 digs and had two of the team's aces -- including the one on match point, Bauer added 11 and the Fornstrom sisters, Ashley and Brittany each tallied 10.
Oregon State was led by Abby Windell with 10 kills, while libero Kristy Mortensen had a team-high 15 digs and Karah Rhoades added 12. All-Tournament team member Brittany Cahoon led the Beavers with seven blocks and Mortensen had two of the three aces on the night.
Colorado State will host New Mexico State on Friday evening and Florida A&M on Saturday evening before beginning Mountain West Conference action. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
