The Colorado State women's golf team hosts the seventh annual Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic September 12-13 at Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins. Monday's 36-hole round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start with the final 18 holes scheduled to tee off Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring for the event will be available at www.golfstat.com.
The Field
This year's Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic features the most competitive field in the event's history. The 18-team field consists of: Arkansas State, Baylor, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Kansas, Long Beach State, Montana State, Nebraska, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, San Francisco, San Jose State, UTEP, Weber State and Wyoming.
The 2004 Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic
Colorado State claimed team honors in the 2004 Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic firing a three-day total of 876 holding off second-place teams Colorado and San Jose State by 26 strokes. The Rams were led by Lynette Duran who carded a team-best 220, good for a seventh place tie individually. CSU's Margaret Garehime and Kristen Campos finished the two-day event with a five-over-par 221, tying for ninth while Trisha Quick finished with a 222. Then freshman Chelsea Benton registered a 230 tying for 29th.
Individually, Fresno State's Laura Luethke led all golfers with a 213 while Colorado's Hannah Hoch came in second with a 215. Kay Hoey of Long Beach State and San Francisco's Jessica Potter each hit a 216 tying for third.
2005-06 CSU Women's Golf
The Colorado State women's golf team will have a new look when the team hits the links in 2005-06. The Rams return two from last year's NCAA Regional Qualifying team while boasting six newcomers to the roster.
Sophomore Chelsea Benton leads CSU returners ranking fifth on the team with a 77.74 stroke average and five top 20 finishes. Megan Chapman is the other Ram returner playing in four tournaments and netting an 82.6 stroke average as a freshman.
Leading this season's newcomers is junior transfer Amber Ward who held a 79.2 stroke average as a freshman at Northern Arizona and a 80.3 average as a sophomore. Freshmen Kelly Brotherton, Stefanie Ferguson, Krystina Gillenwater, Natalie Stone and Karen Wanersdorfer will also contribute immediately all coming out of high school with numerous awards and tournament victories.
