Kevin Johnson Breaks School Heptathlon Record

At the Zia Classic Multi-Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico, Colorado State junior Kevin Johnson finished third, breaking the school record in the heptathlon with 5,185 points. Sophomore Emily Pearson placed fifth in the heptathlon with a personal best 3,443 points.
Johnson began competition yesterday, running a 7.24 in the 60 meters. He then jumped 22-3 in the long jump and threw a personal best 42-0 in the shot put before closing the day clearing 6-2.25 in the high jump to end the day in third with 2,921 points. He ran a personal best 8.38 to start the second day of competition and then cleared a personal best 14-1.25 in the pole vault and ended the competition with a personal best time of 2:58.98 in the 1000 meters to score a school record 5,185 points, breaking his own record of 5,077 from last season.
Pearson opened the pentathlon today with a 9.12 in the 60 meter hurdles before clearing 5-1.75 in the high jump. During the third event, the shot put she threw 34-11.75 and then recorded a personal best 16-11.5 in the long jump and concluded the day with a 2:31.21 in the 800 meters to score 3,443 points. Her total betters her previous best of 3,384 from last February.
Junior Katie Lloyd competed in the first four events of the pentathlon before pulling out with tightness in her quadriceps muscle. Lloyd ran a 9.00 in the 60 meter hurdles to start the day, then cleared 5-6.5 in the high jump, put the shot 34-8.25 and jumped 18-0.5 in the long jump.
The rest of the Colorado State track & field team competes Saturday at the University of Nebraska in the Nebraska Triangular.
