The Colorado State women's tennis team claimed its first victory of the dual season by beating Illinios-Chicago 7-0. They are 1-1 on the season.
The Rams began the day with doubles play and won two matches to gain the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Emily Kirchem and Anne Andersen defeated Corey Steven and Christina Oum in a quick 8-1 match. Jasmin Singh and Lauren Strasburger gained their first dual victory as a pair by beating Callam and Molly Smith 8-6.
Kirchem claimed her first No. 1 singles victory by overpowering Callam Smith 6-1, 6-1, while Andersen remains undefeated at No. 2 this season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Steven. Strasburger obtained her first victory as a Ram today as she beat Molly Smith 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (9) at No. 3 singles.
Greer Satherlie maintained her undefeated status in dual singles play by defeating Oum at No. 5 singles with a score of 6-2, 6-1. Jessica Jones beat Grace Gill-Morlis 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 4 position.
"Though they (Illinois-Chicago) was a tough team we could have had a let down (after yesterday's loss), but we didn't," said Coach Jon Messick.
"Everybody came out and went after the matches hard."
"To play a team that tough and only lose one set is great."
Andersen is now undefeated in both singles and doubles dual play. Satherlie is undefeated in singles play.
The Rams come home this weekend to face Big Ten opponents Iowa and Minnesota.
