Women's Basketball Falls at San Francisco

Despite opening up an 11-0 lead to begin the game, the Colorado State University women's basketball team fell to San Francisco, 62-51 on Friday night in San Francisco, Calif. Colorado State drops to 1-1 on the season, while San Francisco (1-2) picks up its first win.
Colorado State opened up an early lead, 11-0 in the first 3:23 of the contest. Senior guard Molly Nohr, a native of nearby Moraga, Calif., got the Rams on the board early, scoring six of the teams first eight points to begin the game.
The Dons responded with an 11-2 run of their own to cut the Rams' lead t o13-11.
Two three pointers by freshman Kelly Jo Mullaney ignited a 10-2 run in favor of the Rams and Colorado State regained a 10 point lead, 23-13 with under 9 minutes remaining in the half.
However, early foul trouble soon caught up with the Rams and San Francisco mounted a a stretch in which they outscored Colorado State 20-4, to take a six point lead, 33-27 with three minutes to play in the first half.
Freshman Nya Mason added a couple of scores for the Rams in the final two minutes of the half and the Rams entered the locker room trailing 34-31.
The Rams' offense failed to find its groove, struggling to the tune of 20 points in the second half and San Francisco pushed its lead to double digits, 37-47 with 13:48 remaining in the contest. The Rams were unable to recover, eventually falling by a 62-51 final.
Colorado State was forced to play most of the game without starting forward Juanise Cornell who picked up three early fouls and picked up her fifth personal foul after only 11 minutes on the court.
Mullaney continued to impress on the offensive end for Colorado State. The freshman from Minneapolis, Minn. followed her 22-point collegiate debut with a 17-point effort against the Dons.
Nohr added 12 points for the Rams, all in the first half. Also scoring in double digits for Colorado State was junior Sara Hunter, who finished the contest with 10 points.
Senior Marilyn Moulton pulled down a career-most 14 rebounds and notched her 100th-career offensive rebound on the night. Overall, however, the Rams were outrebounded 48-41, including a 21-14 disadvantage on the offensive glass.
The Rams will look to get back on track against the University of the Pacific on Sunday afternoon from Stockton, Calif. Tipoff for that game is set for 3 p.m. MT/ 2 p.m. PT.
