Program’s winningest coach re-ups with Rams

FORT COLLINS – Run it back. Colorado State women's basketball head coach, Ryun Williams, agreed to a contract extension with the program through 2031 on Tuesday, Director of Athletics John Weber announced.

"Coach Williams has become a staple not just for our women's basketball program, but the athletic department and university. He has shown his ability to win on the court as the program's all-time leader in wins, but more importantly off the court," Weber said. "Coach Williams and his staff develop great young women who represent the program, the university and the community with world-class excellence. We are excited for Ryun and the program to take on this new era in the Pac-12 and continue the standard that he has built for Colorado State women's basketball."

The winningest coach in program history with 281 wins across 14 seasons, Williams is set to lead the Rams into the new Pac-12 era in his 15th season at the helm. Williams guided the Rams to a Mountain West Tournament Championship in 2026 – the university's final year as a member of the conference – and led CSU to the NCAA Tournament, where it nearly upset fifth-seeded Michigan State.

"It's an honor and a privilege to be the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Colorado State University," Williams said. "My family and I are extremely thankful for the continued opportunity to lead this program, specifically with an exciting new era in front of us. CSU is the most amazing place with incredible people. Thank you to President Parsons, John Weber and all of Ram Country for your belief and support."

The program Williams has built at Colorado State has been a model of consistency by winning 20 games in each of the last five campaigns – one of just 14 mid-major programs to do so. In total, Williams has led CSU to 10 seasons with 20-or-more victories and has two of the school's top three winningest seasons: 2015-16 (31 wins) and 2025-26 (27 wins).

Part of Williams' success in recent seasons has been his ability to thrive in the transfer portal, identifying elite talent and putting them in the best position to succeed. Under Williams, Colorado State won five of the last six Mountain West Newcomer of the Year awards, highlighted by All-American honorable mentions McKenna Hofschild and Emma Ronsiek.

Williams took over CSU's women's basketball program in 2012-13 and generated an impressive turnaround in just his second season in charge. Under Williams, the Rams won four-consecutive MW regular season titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2015-16 – one of eight postseason appearances under the skipper.

Williams was twice named the MW Head Coach of the Year (2014, 2016) and leaves the league tied for the record in regular season conference victories with 159. Williams was also named the 2014 Russell Athletic/WBCA NCAA DI Regional Coach of the Year, and in the 2024-25 season was named a WBCA NCAA DI Coach of the Year Finalist.
