The Colorado State University women's basketball team fell to conference newcomer TCU, 83-57 at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth on Wednesday night. The Rams fall to 8-16 (2-11 MWC), while the Lady Frogs improve to 15-9 (9-4 MWC), with three games remaining before the Mountain West Conference tournament.
The Rams came out of the gates and staked to an early lead against the Lady Frogs over the first eight minutes of the contest. Senior Melissa Dennett scored eight of the Rams first 14 points of the game and following a trey by sophomore Sara Hunter, the Rams were on top of TCU, 17-15 with 11:47 remaining in the opening stanza.
TCU's Adrianne Ross then scored eight straight points, including two consecutive three-point shots, to spark a 31-5 run to close out the second half and dash the Rams hopes. Colorado State went into the half trailing TCU, 46-22.
The Rams were then held without a field goal for the first four minutes of the second half, and TCU extended the lead to 30 points, 52-22. The Rams continued to battle, cutting the lead back to 21 points, 58-37 following a 11-4 run of their own, but it was not enough, as Colorado State eventually fell by the final of 83-57.
Dennett led the Rams with 17 points and seven rebounds in the contest. Hunter also posted double-figures for the Rams, finishing with 13 points, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Ross led all scorers with 24 points, tying a career high. She shot 3-for-4 from three-point range, as the Lady Frogs downed a season-high 10 threes en route to the victory.
Next up, the Rams return home to Moby Arena for a renewal of the Border War against Wyoming on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. CSTV will televise the game.
