The Colorado State women's golf team kicked off their spring season at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational today in Fresno, Calif. The Rams played the first round of the two round tournament today and are currently tied for 10th place with the University of Idaho. Colorado State carded a combined score of 307 which puts them only two strokes behind Fresno State, the defending team champions. UC-Irvine is ranked in the top spot after the first round, with three of their players seated in the top ten.

Leading the Rams after the first round of play is sophomore Megan Chapman. Chapman fired off a 38 on the front nine and improved by one stroke to shoot a 37 on the back nine. Her round one total of 75 (+3) places her in a tie for 24th place.

Close behind Chapman is Chelsea Benton. Benton, who is coming off a stellar performance at the Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown, shot a 76 (+4) on the day and is currently sitting in a tie for 32nd place. Chelsea shows signs that she is just getting warmed up after the teams three month hiatus as she improved by four strokes on the back nine of the course.

Amber Ward is the next on the leaderboard for the Rams. Ward shot a 78 in the first round, and like Benton, improved by four strokes on the back nine. Ward is tied with fellow teammate Karen Wanersdorfer for 54th place. Karen is 35 on the front nine was the lowest score over nine holes for the Rams and she carded a 78 on the day. Stefanie Ferguson, who played in all five tournaments in the fall, rounds out the CSU team. Ferguson finished the day with an 81 and sits in a tie for 73rd.

The Rams wrap up the tournament with the second round of play tomorrow at the Copper River Country Club with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m. Results can be found at the conclusion of the round at www.gobulldogs.com
