Eder Wins Weight Throw On Day One

The Colorado State track and field team was at the Air Force Academy today for the first day of the two-day Air Force Invitational. Among the final events, junior Trey Eder won his third weight throw competition of the season and 12 of the 18 Rams in the sprints and middle distance events advanced to the finals tomorrow.
Eder led a trio of Rams to the 1-2-3 sweep, as he threw 64-7.25. Senior Nate Heyrman was second with a season-best throw of 63-2, while senior Jace Rivera was third with a season-best throw of 61-4.25. Sophomore Jason Schutz also finished fifth at 60-4.5.
The women's distance medley relay team consisting of freshman Chantelle Dron, junior Megan Fox, sophomore Heather Loseke and senior Danielle Korb won the event with a time of 12:06.46, while sophomore Ashlee Velez won the unseeded mile at 5:26.80 and junior Val McGregor and freshman Erin Weber took the top two spots in the unseeded 3000 meters.
The men's distance medley relay team made up of freshman Scott Sanders, junior Drew Morano, sophomore Steven Swartz and sophomore Jeff Wahl finished second with a time of 10:36.17, while sophomore Logan Sherman won the unseeded 3000 meters with a time of 9:07.42. The trio of senior Ryan Kirkpatrick, senior Bryan Dillon and freshman Jeremy Freed took second through fourth, respectively in the unseeded mile, and junior transfer Brandon Mora placed second in the pole vault, clearing 15-7.75.
In the women's pentathlon, junior Katie Lloyd placed second with a point total of 3565, while sophomore Emily Pearson was fourth, junior Tonya Cure was fifth and sophomore Ashleigh Morton placed seventh.
In preliminary races, Fox advanced in the 200, sophomore Niomi Ridge advances in the 400 and junior Rebekah Yetzer and freshman Kristen Hemphill advance in the 800 meters -- with Yetzer posting the fastest time on the day. Morano advances in the 200 meters, while freshman Kyle Keeler, senior Justin Hazzard and senior Dylan Spitzer all advance in the 400 meters. The quartet of Swartz, sophomore Taylor Ronne, junior Nelson Palacios and sophomore Andres Urbina all qualified for the finals in the 800 meters.
Events in the final day of the Air Force Invitational are scheduled to begin at 9:00 am with the women's weight throw and the men's 60 meter hurdles.
