Water Polo Rolls Past La Verne, 16-7

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Marisa Fernandez and Annie Quinn each posted four goals to lead Colorado State to a 16-7 victory over La Verne Saturday afternoon in Fort Collins.
Quinn got the Rams (9-6) on the board early in the first before the visiting Leopards evened the count, 1-1 with 2:38 left in the opening period. CSU closed out the first with three unanswered goals and added a fourth-straight in the second to jump ahead 5-1 with 5:35 to play in the second frame. Each team added two more goals in the second to put the halftime count at 7-3, CSU.
La Verne found themselves down 10-5 after three periods before Colorado State notched six goals in the fourth to claim the 16-7 win.
Quinn and Fernandez each posted game-highs with four goals while CSU's Laurien White added three. Laura Scruggs had two first-quarter goals for the Rams and Shari Worack, Rachael Thall and Monica Schuh all had one in the match.
La Verne was led by a three-goal performance from Jen Aguilar while Kristen McKown and Lindsey Watson each had two.
Defensively, CSU's Andrea Lugo had 13 saves while allowing seven goals and Leopard goalie Lindsay Jones had 15 saves on 31 Ram shot attempts.
Fernandez led CSU with two assists in the match and, along with Schuh had a game-high three steals.
Colorado State hosts Penn State Behrend Thursday. Match time is 6 p.m. at Edora Pool Ice Center (EPIC).
