Women's Tennis Overpowers North Texas 6-1

The CSU women's tennis team dominated North Texas in their first home outdoor match of the season, 6-1. CSU is now 4-5 on the season.
The Rams swept the doubles point for the first time this season. Emily Kirchem and Anne Andersen defeated Megan Schmulbach and Sammie Moreton at No. 1 doubles in a quick 8-1 set. Carla Pallares and Lauren Strasburger beat Ina Wieding and Aziza Aba Butain, 8-6. Jessica Jones and Jasmin Singh won at No. 3 doubles by defeating Linley Wasson and Sara Giles in a close 9-8 (7) set.
Kirchem began the singles play by overpowering Wieding, 6-1, 7-6 (4), at No. 1 singles. Andersen came out on top after a tough 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 match against Wasson at No. 2. Strasburger won at No. 3 by beating Moreton, 6-4, 6-1. Pallares swept Schmulbach at No.4, 6-2, 6-0. Singh beat Giles, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6. Jones retired at No. 5 to Aba Butain.
"It was one of the best team efforts we've had this season," said Coach Jon Messick. "Everybody stepped it up and came through."
The Rams travel to Las Vegas, Nev. March 14 and 15 for the annual spring break trip.
