Fort Collins, Colo. - The Colorado State women's golf team closed its first tournament of the season Tuesday with a fourth-place finish in the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic at Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins. The Rams had rounds of 292, 306 and 296 to finish with a 30-over-par 894.

The Rams had two players, Megan Chapman and Chelsea Benton, each fire rounds of 68 during the event, just one stroke away from Benton's school record set last season. Chapman's came in the first round while Benton's came in the third.

Chapman led CSU with rounds of 68, 74 and 74 to place sixth with an even-par 216. Benton came in tied for 27th with rounds of 77, 80 and 68 for a nine-over 225.

Senior Amber Ward carded rounds of 73, 75 and 78 to finish in 30th with a 10-over 226 while freshman Kasey Claussen finished tied for 48th with rounds of 74, 78 and 79 for a 15-over 231.

Stefanie Ferguson closed out team scoring for CSU with a 79, 79 and 76 to claim a share of 52nd with an 18-over 234. Redshirt freshman Natalie Stone, who proved to be CSU's second best golfer of the tournament, competed as an individual in the event. She had scores of 72, 74 and 73 to finish tied for 13th with a three-over 219.

Long Beach State's Kay Hoey used rounds of 67, 74 and 68 to win individual honors going away with a seven-under 209, five strokes better than the rest of the field.

Colorado claimed the team honors in the event holding off defending champion Baylor by one stroke in the 17-team tournament. Colorado had rounds of 286, 292 and 294 holding off the Bears who registered a final-round score of 292.

Colorado State will compete next in the Ron Moore Invitational in Denver, Colo., September 25 and 26.
