On the Next Tee... The Colorado State women's golf team heads to Highlands Ranch, Colo. to compete in the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate on Sept. 25 and 26. The University of Denver is hosting the 54-hole tournament, which will be played at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club. Live scoring for the event will be available at www.golfstat.com.
The Field The 14-team field for the Ron Moore Intercollegiate features some of the top teams across the country, including: Arkansas-Little Rock, Ball State, Baylor, BYU, California-Davis, Colorado State, Denver, Memphis, Missouri, Northern Colorado, North Texas, San Diego State, Texas Tech and Tulsa
The 2006 Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic Colorado State finished fourth in the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic, despite firing a 292 in the first round, which is tied for the seventh best single round team score in school history. The University of Colorado women's golf team won the event, finishing the three-round tournament with an eight-over-par 872. Baylor, the defending champion, settled for a close second after firing a three round total of 873. Rounding out the top five was San Jose State, who came in third with a 15-over-par 879, and Fresno State, who came in fifth with a 31-over-par 895.
Kay Hoey of Long Beach State took top individual honors, smoking the competition with a seven-under-par three-round total of 209. Megan Chapman was the top individual golfer for the Rams, finishing in 6th place. Chapman finished the tournament at even par, although the 68 she fired in the first round is tied for the second lowest single-round score in school history.
Breaking into the Record Books The 2006 Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic was one for the record books for the Rams. Megan Chapman and Chelsea Benton both shot rounds of 68, which tied them for the second lowest single-round score in school history. The Rams also broke into the record books twice as a team. The 292 they carded in the first round of the tournament is tied for the seventh-lowest single-round team score in school history, and their three-round score of 894 ranks as the ninth-best tournament score in school history. The Ram's will look to build on this initial success as they head into the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
Stone-Cold Consistent Perhaps the most surprising result for the Rams in the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic was the consistent play of redshirt freshman Natalie Stone. Stone, competing as an indivudual in the tournament, carded rounds of 72, 74 and 73, respectively, to finish in a tie for 13th. The Ram's hope to use Stone's consistency as a building block for the team in the future.
