Highlands Ranch, Colo. - The Colorado State women's golf team shot a final round 307 including a round of 71 from Highlands Ranch native Chelsea Benton to finish ninth in the team standings at the 2006 Ron Moore Intercollegiate Tuesday. CSU was in eighth after two rounds of play and was passed by Baylor after they recorded a final round 302, moving the Bears into a seventh-place finish.

Benton continued her solid play on Tuesday with a one-under 71 moving her into a third-place finish in the tournament after firing rounds of 71, 69 and 71 for a three-round score of 211 (-5). Benton's finish matches the highest of her career after tying for third in the 2005 Las Vegas Founders Collegiate with a three-round score of 210 last season.

Natalie Stone posted a 76 on Tuesday to finish tied for 47th with a 232 while Stefanie Ferguson's 82 placed her in a tie for 50th with a score of 234. Freshman Kasey Claussen carded a round of 83 Tuesday placing her 61st with a 237 and Megan Chapman came in tied for 68th with a 239 for the tournament.

"Chelsea played really steady and solid", commented CSU head coach Angie Hopkins. "She's due for a win one of these days. We're just patiently waiting."

Host school Denver came away with team honors with a 15-under 849, 18 strokes better than second-place BYU. BYU's Rachel Newren came away as the individual medalist with a final round 67 and a three-round score of 206.

Along with Benton's third-place finish, the junior also came away as the tournament's long drive champion with a 303-yard drive in Sunday's contest.

CSU will resume action on Oct. 2-3 in the CU/Heather Farr Memorial in Broomfield.
