The Field
This year's Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic features the most competitive field in the event's history. The 17-team field consists of: Arkansas State, Baylor, California, Colorado, Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Kansas, Long Beach State, Montana, Montana State, Northern Colorado, Portland State, San Jose State, Weber State and Wyoming.

Five golfers, including one from Colorado State, will be competing individually at the tournament. Two golfers from Colorado, one from Wyoming and one from Eastern Washington round out the individual field.

The 2005 Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic
The Baylor women's golf team claimed top honors in the 2005 Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic, firing a five-under-par 859 in the three-round tournament. Colorado State finished the tournament in fifth place with a 29-over 893, although their first round score of 286 ranks as the lowest single-round team score in CSU history. Krystina Gillenwater fired a four-over 220 to lead the Ram's individually and finish in a tie for 14th place. Chelsea Benton and Megan Chapman posted scores of 224 and 226, finishing in ties for 21st and 30th, respectively. Stephanie Ferguson shot a 227 to come in tied for 33rd.

Individually, Sian Reddick and Josefin Svenningsson, both of Baylor, tied for top individual honors in the event each scoring a six-under 210 for the three-round event. Kansas' Amanda Costner finished third with a four-under 212 including a 69 in Tuesday's third round.

2006-07 CSU Women's Golf
The Colorado State women's golf team is returning five players from last year's squad, including All-Mountain West Conference player Chelsea Benton. Benton was one of only three players in the region selected to compete as an individual in the 2006 NCAA West Regional tournament, where she scored a three-round total of 230 to finish tied for 39th. Other returnees include Amber Ward, Megan Chapman, Stephanie Ferguson and redshirt freshman Natalie Stone. Ward, who held a 79.32 stroke average last year, is the only senior on the team.

Leading this season's newcomers is freshman Kasey Claussen. Claussen, a Fort Collins native, was selected to the 2006 Colorado All-State golf team and finished fifth in the Class 5A state championships. She was the Fort Collins Junior City Champion in 2004 and an Optimist International Club Medalist in 2005. Claussen was also presented with the Honor Athlete Award four times and won the Remax Long Drivers of America contest in 2005. Also new to the team this year is junior transfer Mary Ellen Herring, who held a 79.57 stroke average last season at Wofford College. Both Claussen and Herring will look to contribute to the team immediately.

Sensational Scholars
Megan Chapman and Stephanie Ferguson were named to the 2005-06 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team. The NGCA recognized a total of 371 women's golfers from NCAA division I, II and III for this prestigious honor. In order to be considered for the honor, a golfer must have a grade point average of 3.50 or greater and have completed in at least half of her teams scheduled rounds for the season. Chapman and Ferguson started off last season with a bang, each carding single round lows of 73 in the 2005 Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic. Chapman's best finish of the seaon was 19th at the Give `Em Five Invitational in October. Ferguson's best finish came at the Mountain West Conference Championships, where she carded a three-round 237 to finish 27th.

Viva Las Benton
Chelsea Benton's sensational sophomore season was highlighted by her record-breaking performance at the Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown. Benton's second round score of 67 ranks as the lowest single-round score in CSU women's golf history. Not to be overshadowed was the 69 that Benton shot in the first round, which was the fifth lowest single round score in school history. In addition, her overall tournament score is the second lowest tournament score in CSU history. This outstanding performance earned Benton Mountain West Golfer of the Month honors for November.
