Morano Provisionally Qualifies For NCAA Championship

Colorado State junior Drew Morano ran a 47.25 in the men's 400 meters at the Conference Challenge Meet hosted by Nebraska, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championship and winning the event. The Rams track & field team paired with the Air Force Falcons to compete against teams from Kansas State, Missouri and Nebraska in a league challenge. The Big XII won the meet 223-144.
Morano's time of 47.25 is also a personal best for the Paola, Kan., native and the second fastest time in school history as well as the third fastest in Mountain West Conference history. He also finished second in the 200 meters with a personal best time of 21.40, which is the fourth fastest time in the CSU annals.
Junior Andres Urbina won the 5000 meters with a time of 15:09.52, while sophomore Scott Sanders was a double champion, winning both the mile (4:08.37) and the 800 meters (1:52.39). His time in the mile is the sixth fastest in school history, while his 800 time ranks seventh. Senior Rob Watson was also victorious in the 3000 meters (8:18.70).
For the women, junior April Thomas was victorious in the 3000 meters, running a 9:50.75 - to rank seventh in CSU history, while senior Janay DeLoach won the 60 meters in 7.48, was second in the 200 meters (25.01) and second in the long jump (19-8).
Senior Kevin Johnson was second in the long jump with a leap of 22-10.5. Sophomore Rashaun Greer finished second in the 60 hurdles (8.25), while freshman Beth Dunfield crossed the tape second in the 5000 meters (18:10.65) and junior Danielle Rawlings was right behind her in third. Senior Katie Lloyd was second in the 60 hurdles (8.86) and third in the long jump (19-1.5), while senior Megan Fox and junior Emily Pearson were second and third, respectively in the 400 meters.
Colorado State will compete in the Don Barrett Air Force Open and the adidas Classic, hosted by Nebraska next Saturday.
