Women's Golf opens play in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS -- The Colorado State women's golf team opened its final tournament of the fall season on Monday with Round 1 of the Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown. The Rams shot a 20-over-par 308 and are in a tie for 16th.
Junior Stefanie Ferguson, the Mountain West Conference leader in per round stroke average (76.33), paces the Rams in a tie for 19th. Ferguson shot a 73 (+1). Sophomore Kasey Claussen sits just two strokes back of Ferguson in a tie for 41st, carding a 3-over-par 75.
Freshman Kayley Kempton posted a first round total of 78. Sophomore Natalie Stone rounded out the field for the Rams with a 12-over-par 84 in 93rd.
Tennessee's Marci Turner and Denver's Katie Kempter lead the tournament after one round at 5-under-par. The Lady Vols also top the team standings with a 282 (-6). Denver ranks second with a 3-under-par 285.
The Rams return to action tomorrow with Round 2. The tournament concludes Wednesday.
