The Colorado State women's track & field team won the Air Force Invitational for the fourth straight year and the ninth time in 10 years, scoring 131 points, compared to 93 for second place Wichita State. The men's team finished third with 79 points behind 129.5 by Air Force and 109 by Colorado.
Freshman Tanesha Johnson continued to perform well for the Rams, winning the 60 meters with a personal best time of 7.69, which also ranks sixth in school history. Juniors Kirsten Anthony and Heather Loseke swept the top two spots in the 800 meters, posting season best times of 2:17.38 and 2:17.90, respectively. Freshman Beth Dunfield won her second straight race, this time winning the 5000 meters in 19:10.88, while teammates Danielle Rawlings and Renee Mayer were third and fourth, respectively.
Senior Ryan Kirkpatrick was the top collegian and second overall to former Ram great Josh Glaab in the 5000 meters, with Kirkpatrick clocking a 16:00.00.
Seniors Katie Lloyd and Rae Backes took the top two collegiate spots in the high jump, with Lloyd tying coach Lindsey Malone after they both cleared 5-7. Freshman Jennifer Ugochukwu threw a huge personal best in the shot put to win at 47-9.25, bettering her previous best by almost two feet.
Sophomore Scott Sanders finished third in the finals of the 800 meters, clocking in at 1:55.49, while sophomore Kyle Keeler ran a personal best 49.30 to finish fourth in the 400 meters. Sophomore Kristen Hemphill finished second in the mile, running a 5:19.46, while junior Alison Taylor placed fourth at 5:25.43. Freshman Rob Marin and sophomore Rashaun Greer finished third and fourth, respectively in the 60 meter hurdles after Greer ran the fastest time in prelims at 8.23.
In the field events, junior Jason Smith finished fourth in the triple jump, while senior Trey Eder was third in the shot put. Senior Haley Hunt threw a season best 56-5.25 in the weight throw to place third and freshman Doug Dieker, competing in his first collegiate heptathlon, finished fourth with 4,713 points - good for second on the CSU descending order list.
Colorado State will split into two groups next weekend, with several heading to Seattle, Wash., to compete in the Husky Classic and the rest of the squad traveling to Golden, Colo., to compete in the Mines All-Comers Meet.
