Ram Comeback Bids Fall Short

Davis, Calif. - The Colorado State water polo team suffered a pair of one-goal losses in the final day of the Aggie Shootout hosted by the University of California Davis Sunday. The Rams fell to Cal State San Bernardino 9-8 before being toppled by No. 19 Santa Clara 7-6.

Against Cal State San Bernardio, CSU trailed 6-5 at the half before giving up three straight goals to trail 9-5 after three periods. CSU scored three unanswered goals in the fourth but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Laurien White led the team with three goals while Shannon Kohl and Sarah Ostling east had two. Emily Chambers added one goal to round out the scoring effort for the Rams. In goal, Krystyna McCright notched 11 saves in the loss.

In the nightcap, CSU trailed nationally ranked Santa Clara 4-2 at the half and 7-4 after three quarters. CSU was able to outscore the Broncos 2-0 in the fourth but came up short in the 7-6 contest.

White led CSU with another three-goal hat trick while Ostling, Emily McCullough and Annie Quinn each scored once. Andrea Lugo was in goal for CSU and had nine saves.

CSU (11-14) will play next in the Loyola Marymount Tournament April 13-14.
