Rams in Fourth at Conference Championships

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Colorado State women's golf team is in fourth place after carding a 315 in the first round of the Mountain West Championships at the 6,210 yard, par-71 Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club.
Leading the team is Stefanie Ferguson, who sits tied for sixth place after finishing with a five-over-par 76. Megan Chapman is tied for 15th, after recording a 78, and Amber Ward is tied for 19th after an opening round score of 80. Rounding out the scoring for the Rams are Natalie Stone, who is tied for 23rd after her 81, and Kasey Claussen, who had an 84 and is tied for 31st.
Fifteenth-ranked BYU shot a 10-over-par 294 and is leading the championships, which feature seven Mountain West schools with women's golf programs. Six strokes behind the leader is TCU, and 20 strokes back is
Catherine Matranga, of TCU, and Rachel Newren, of BYU, are tied for first place after each recorded a one-over-par 72.
The second round of the three-day event will begin Friday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
