Rams Place Fifth in Hawaii
The Colorado State women's golf team finished in fifth place at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawai'i after carding rounds of 318, 300 and 306, good for a total of 916. The Rams were led by senior Megan Chapman, who posted scores of 79, 74 and 73, equaling a total of 226 and good for a tie for sixth place. Chelsea Benton finished tied for 12th, two strokes off from Chapman, after firing rounds of 77, 73 and 78. Stefanie Ferguson (81-77-79=237) ended the event tied for 30th, while Kasey Claussen (81-76-83=240) and Amber Ward (84-80-76=240) finished in a tie for 45th.
Texas A&M won the event by two strokes over Arizona. Individually, UTEP's Gerina Mendoza claimed top honors after beating Texas A&M's Danielle McVeigh in a one-hole playoff. Both players recorded three-round totals of 217.
Chapman's Top-10s
After finishing the Thompson Invitational in a tie for sixth place, senior Megan Chapman leads the Rams in top 10-finishes. Chapman also finshed sixth in the opening event of the year, the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic. Before this year, Chapman had never had a top 10-finish in her collegiate career.
Benton's Top-20s
The consisenty of junior Chelsea Benton is evidenced by her four top-20 finishes on the year. Her 12th place finish at the Thompson Invitational is her second top-20 finish in a row and the 13th of her collegiate career.
One Over
At least one Ram has recorded a round of 73 in the team's last five events; and excluding the Heather Farr/CU Memorial, the Rams have not had an event all year in which a golfer did not shoot a 73.
Last Time at the Dixie
In last year's BYU Dixie Classic, the Rams finished in 13th place. Chelsea Benton, Megan Chapman, Stefanie Ferguson, and Amber Ward all competed in last year's event.
