EUGENE, Ore. - Colorado State's cross country team faced their toughest competition of the season at the Dellinger Invitational Saturday afternoon with both teams having a good showing. The women's team, currently ranked No. 21 nationally, defeated two ranked opponents and was within five points of No. 5 Arkansas as they finished fourth.

The women's team was led by April Thomas who finished fourth with a time of 20:27 on the 6,000m course. Heather Loseke finished in ninth place with a time of 20:38. Both were members of the lead pack for the race. CSU defeated BYU for the first time in a major meet.

"I thought the women ran extremely well, beating ranked teams BYU and Georgia is a great accomplishment," said Head Coach Bryan Berryhill. "We were that close to the No. 5 team in the country. We came out here and accomplished some good things. April ran a great race, this is a wonderful field for her to finish fourth and for Heather to finish ninth gave us a strong presence here. For us to finish five points behind Arkansas is a great accomplishment for this team."

For the men Jeremy Freed was the top CSU finisher. The Rams finished 11, just ten points behind Ohio State.

"This is about where we should have finished," Berryhill commented. We didn't step up as much as we thought. We are capable of better. A couple of them stepped up but the team wasn't quite where I thought we would be. Jeremy ran very well. He and Scott both ran really well."
