FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State track and field teams knocked the rust off after almost a month out of action Saturday afternoon, sending split squads to two different meets. The Rams men and women each finished fifth at the Nebraska Conference Challenge, while no team scores were kept at the Joe Davies Invitational in Golden, Colo.
"It was the good, the bad and the ugly," said Head Coach Brian Bedard. "Most of these teams got back from the break and have been training for three weeks. There were some eyes opened today."
In Lincoln, Neb., Allison Gohl had the Rams' lone first-place finish, winning the 5,000 meters in a time of 17:26.10. She finished almost 5 and-a-half seconds faster than the runner-up. Tanesha Johnson finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.85, while Drew Morano finished second in the 400 meters and fourth in the 200 meters.
At the Joe Davies meet, the CSU throwers showed their dominance as the women took two of the top five spots in the shot put, and four of the top five spots in the weight throw. Serena Johnson finished in fifth place in both events. Ryan Billups won the triple jump with a leap of 14.09 meters, Ian Letto finished third in the shot put and sixth in the weight throw.
"Allison Gohl winning the 5,000 was the highlight but we had several throwers have PRs today," Bedard added. "This was an eye-opener for some of our freshmen and a good gauge for some of our other kids. This was a good meet to knock the rust off."
CSU will return to action at the Air Force Invitational, Feb. 1-2. The Falcons will also host the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships later this year.
