Final Stats

PROVO, Utah - Colorado State used a 9-0 second-half run to cut the BYU lead to three points, 40-37, with 6:43 remaining in the contest, but BYU responded with six straight points to keep the Rams at bay and hold on for a 59-44 win at the Marriott Center on Wednesday night.

Senior guard Sara Hunter led the Rams with 10 points in the contest and junior forward Amaka Uzomah, earning her second-career start, led all players with 12 rebounds for the Rams, who fought back from a game-opening 1-for-17 shooting performance and 15-point second-half deficit.

Hunter knocked down the Rams' first shot of the contest to give them an early 3-0 lead, but the Rams missed 16 straight shots and found themselves in an early 14-3 hole.  The Rams battled back, outscoring the Cougars 12-11 to close the first half and head into the locker room down 24-15.

The Cougars came out of the break and outscored the Rams 9-3 to push the lead to 15, 33-18 with 16:48 remaining in the contest.  A 6-0 CSU run brought the Rams back to within nine points, 33-24.  After a pair of BYU 3-pointers, the Rams rattled off nine consecutive points to pull to within three, 40-37, with 6:43 remaining in the contest.

But the Cougars proved to be too much down the stretch, closing the game on a 19-7 run to come away with the 59-44 win.

Freshman forward Elle Queen added eight points to go along with six rebounds and a team-best three assists.  Sophomore guard Emily Neal, who earned her first start of the season, added eight points and three rebounds.  Sophomore forward Juanise Cornell came off the bench for the first time her 50 career games and sparked the Rams with five points, seven rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes.

The Rams will take Saturday off and return to action Feb. 20 at Moby Arena against the TCU Lady Frogs.  Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
